Where this helps

Situations that typically lead businesses to this kind of work.

  • Out-of-the-box features cover most of the store, but key business rules need custom logic.
  • Admin teams rely on spreadsheets or manual steps the platform could handle.
  • Previous customisations were made in core files and now block upgrades.
  • The storefront needs a bespoke experience rather than a generic theme.

Capabilities

What we deliver

  • Business logic

Custom pricing, ordering, approval and fulfilment rules implemented as maintainable services.

  • Admin extensions

New admin screens, bulk tools and reports so operations teams can work inside nopCommerce.

  • Storefront themes

Custom Razor themes and components designed for your catalog and customers.

  • Data model extensions

New entities, attributes and migrations that live alongside the core schema cleanly.

  • Multi-store setups

Store-specific catalogs, pricing, content and configuration on a single installation.

  • Upgrade-aware architecture

Customisations kept in plugins and extension points instead of edits to core source.

Keeping customisations in plugins is what makes later upgrades manageable. See why in our guide to upgrading nopCommerce to 4.90 or 5.0 without breaking plugins.

Selling electronics and want a ready-made starting point instead of a fully custom storefront? See TechOrbit, our electronics theme for nopCommerce.

Fit

When custom nopCommerce development is the right choice

nopCommerce covers a lot out of the box: multi-store, multi-vendor, B2B customer roles, tier prices, discounts and a large plugin marketplace. Custom development makes sense when the way your business sells does not fit those defaults — a pricing rule the discount engine cannot express, an approval step before orders are released, or an admin task your team currently does in spreadsheets.

We check what the platform and existing plugins already provide before proposing new code. When something has to be built, it goes into plugins, events and extension points rather than core files, so the store can still be upgraded to new nopCommerce releases.

  • Configuration or an existing plugin, when it genuinely meets the requirement
  • A custom plugin for new business logic, admin screens or integrations
  • A custom or extended theme when the storefront needs its own experience
  • Data model extensions for entities nopCommerce does not have
  • Refactoring earlier core edits into plugins when they block upgrades

Approach

How we approach it

  1. 01

    Map the requirements

We document the business rules and identify what nopCommerce already provides.

  2. 02

    Design the extension

We choose the right extension points — plugins, events, overrides — before writing code.

  3. 03

    Build and review

Work is delivered in reviewable increments with access to a staging environment.

Platform

nopCommerce versions we support

We build for and support nopCommerce 4.50 to 5.00. Each release runs on a specific .NET version, which sets the hosting a store needs and how much work an upgrade involves.

Stores on 4.40 or later upgrade the database automatically when the new release first starts. Plugins and the theme still need builds for the target version.

Questions

Custom nopCommerce Development FAQ

Something else on your mind? Ask us directly.

What can be customised in nopCommerce?

Almost every layer: business logic for pricing, ordering and fulfilment, admin screens and reports, storefront themes and views, the data model, checkout steps, and integrations with external systems. Most of it can be delivered as plugins, which keeps the core platform untouched.

Will custom development make future upgrades harder?

Not if it is built in the right place. Customisations written into core files have to be re-applied by hand at every upgrade. Plugins only need to be rebuilt and tested against the new release, which is why we keep custom work in plugins and extension points wherever possible.

Which nopCommerce version do you build for?

We develop for and support nopCommerce 4.50 to 5.00. New work targets the current release, nopCommerce 5.00 on .NET 10, or 4.90 on .NET 9 when a plugin the store needs has no 5.00 build yet. If your store is older than 4.50, or several versions behind, we will tell you whether upgrading first is the better investment.

Can we hire a dedicated nopCommerce developer?

Yes. Besides fixed-scope projects, we work as a dedicated development team: engineers assigned to your store, working from your backlog and priorities, with regular planning, demos and direct contact with the developers. It suits ongoing development and roadmaps that change.

Can you take over a store another team built?

Yes. We start with a review of the source code, plugins, theme and hosting so we understand what exists, where core files were changed and what risks to address before adding new features.

Who owns the code you write?

You do. At handover you receive the source code and the documentation needed to operate, deploy and extend it.
